Abstract

Introduction: Lung abscess is a rare condition, but not rare in pediatric age whose resolution with conservative medical treatment occurs most of the time. Only some patients require surgical treatment.

Objective: To examine the diagnostic and therapeutic elements followed before a primary lung abscess in a pediatric patient.

Case presentation: A 9-month-old infant admitted due to fever, polypnea, tirage and irritability, manifestations that together with hematological, microbiological and imaging tests allow the diagnosis of the condition treated. Without response to conservative medical treatment, evacuation of the abscess is performed by Monaldi technique guided by ultrasound.

Conclusions: It is concluded that the patient's evolution after evacuation of the lung abscess by Monaldi technique is favorable.
