Abstract

Introduction: Hemophilia A is a coagulopathy caused by a deficiency in Factor VIII clotting activity. Although it is a congenital disease, symptoms rarely manifest during the neonatal period.

Objective: To present the initial manifestation of hemophilia Type A in a neonate presenting with a hematoma secondary to hepatitis B vaccination.

Case report: A neonate with no known family history was admitted at 52 hours of age due to a hematoma on the left thigh, secondary to the administration of the hepatitis B vaccine. During blood sampling for diagnostic testing, new, large-scale hematomas appeared; consequently, further investigations were conducted, leading to a diagnosis of hemophilia Type A.

Conclusions: The case presented here represents the first instance of this condition at this age reported at Dr. Antonio Luaces Iraola Provincial University Hospital. Despite being the most common form of hemophilia, it is rarely diagnosed during this stage of life. Awareness of this condition is essential, as care provided by a multidisciplinary team is crucial for establishing the appropriate management plan and ensuring successful treatment outcomes.
